.studioUnderworld Studio comprises a unique live room, complete with instruments and amplification for practice or recording, a dedicated vocal booth, an intuitive control room and a workshop space built for collaboration.
All of our rooms are acoustically treated to get your recordings as close to sonic perfection as we can, so that you can focus on what you came to do.
We're a small studio with a big vision. Our sound treated live-room gives a punchy, clean sound with space for vocals, drums, guitars, keys and more, with a direct feed of the control room to work seamlessly with your engineer. The live room is acoustically treated to minimise unwanted reflections and provide a neutral sound environment. This means that you can capture the sound of your instruments accurately, without any unwanted coloration or distortion.
We provide a range of high-quality microphones and recording equipment ideal for capturing the sound of a range of instruments. Our experienced engineers can help you choose the best microphones and placement for your instruments to ensure that you get the sound you're looking for.
We have a dedicated vocal booth for the perfect isolated sound which can be used in simultaneous recording with the live-room to give a truly live sound, or separately if you are looking to go 'studio-clean'. Crystal clear solo recordings are best taken through our Neumann U87Ai, capturing every nuance of a performer's voice with stunning accuracy.
Additionally, the booth is equipped with a monitoring and talkback system to get the perfect take and work in harmony with an engineer who can route the sound in through a choice of pre-amps and out through a choice of PreSonus or Adam Audio monitors.
The mixing desk is the centrepiece of the control room, providing precise control over all aspects of the recording process. Analogue reverbs are available through the desk or you can bypass this and work directly from your DAW. We also have a studio controller for fluid sessions featuring talkback and dim functionality as well as allowing an engineer to listen back through headphones or several different monitors when mixing.
The workshop space provides a bright, productive work setting with desk space for collaborative work on any of 4 iMacs, each with their own audio interface and midi keyboard.
Our space is not merely about equipment; it's about the transfer of knowledge. Here, seasoned professionals deliver courses, workshops, and seminars on various aspects of audio production as part of our community programmes.
For individual creatives, we offer a monthly membership for £99. This gives you exclusive access to all of Underworld.Studio subject to availability via our online booking system.
For groups of up to 4 people in one band/organisation, we offer a discounted rate of £189 per month.
Apply now for membership starting summer, 2023:
A studio membership is the best way to get value for your money and take your project to the next level. You will have access to a unique live room, our collaborative workspace, a professional control room, an isolated booth for vocals and solo recording, as well as high-end recording equipment and software as standard.
Booking is simple via a desktop or mobile app system, and initially there will be no strict time limit on the number of hours per month, however, this is subject to change as we grow and take on more members in the future. Each individual or group will need to provide a deposit and their information on starting their membership, as well as a month's notice in order to cancel it. More information can be found in our application form below.
All bookings give exclusive use of the full underworld studio space, but we ask members to give an informative title to their booking so we can understand how the space is being used and improve it over time. Bookings do not come with a studio engineer - this can be booked separately so that once your project is ready for that final professional touch it can be a seamless process to get it polished, released and promoted.
Underworld.Studio also offer packages in photo, video, editing, as well as graphic design and publishing services.
The fees from our members go back into the studio and allow us to fund our community programs which engage with local disadvantaged young people to give them the same opportunities for creative collaboration and expression across music, photo, video and more.

Underworld.Studio began as three friends jamming in a damp and dusty basement. Through working on the sound of the space, we got to thinking: could this be a real recording studio, and what could that mean for ourselves and the community? After designing the space, we created a programme to share our love of music by teaching instrumentation, production and recording to local young people, many from disadvantaged backgrounds.
We are still humbled by the generous funding from The Clare Foundation, Barnes Roffe, Red Kite Community Housing, Techaid Facilities Limited, Heart Of Bucks, Reverb Gives and Beaconsfield and Chepping Wye Community Board who made this project possible.
This support along with collaboration and advice with local organisations such as Young Creative Bucks CEP - plus a great deal of hard work - allowed us to create this space.
We started teaching our first students in early November 2022 and ran pilot programme with 100 hours of tuition and several groups of young people. We're using the results to refine our programme, growing our reach to more students and teaching a wider range of complimentary creative subjects such as photography and video, using music as the subject.
Now we are launching commercial offerings through single bookings and a membership scheme to sustainably fund future community programmes as we also teach more broadly, across instrumentation, production, photo, video and more.
